Music has
been something that I have always loved, and has been
inspirational to me as well as therapeutic when things aren't
going well or if I've had a bad day.
I remember
when I got my first "Midi HiFi" I was so chuffed, I listened to
the radio every chance I had & from there onwards, was captured
by the sound of "Dire Straits" from the first time I heard
"Sultans Of Swing & Money For Nothing. Mark Knopfler is without
doubt, my biggest musical hero. I was lucky enough to see
Mark Knopfler on the 21st of May 2008 at the Cardiff
International Arena, it was an unforgettable night and I can't
wait to go and see him there again in 2010!!
I have every
song that Dire Straits ever recorded & every song that Mark
Knopfler has recorded as a solo artist.
I Love the
sound of the Guitar, any song with guitar in it I'll listen to
it. There are many other artists that I like to listen to, such
as Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Pogues, Cerys Matthews,
B.B King to name but a few. My musical taste extends from Heavy
Metal to Opera and from Country & Western to some good old
fashioned old school Dance Music!
My love
affair with the Guitar started as a direct result of Mark
Knopfler, when I was a teenager on my 14th birthday I think it
was, I got a Red Marlin Slammer Guitar, I was so chuffed to have
a guitar like the man himself Mark Knopfler!
I started
learning chords, and not long after that I got involved in the
school band playing rhythm guitar & I loved it.
My biggest
regret is that after I left school I didn't carry on playing,
that was a result of all things Rallying. But, I am glad to say
that I've started to play guitar again & I'm loving every minute
of it! Since mid 2008 I have been playing guitar with two
friends that I have a real blast with, so much so, we went from
being a "lunchtime in work having fun three piece group" to
officially name ourselves "Hogia Ni", welsh for "Our Boys" and
set out to play for the public, mainly at fundraising evenings
for the local schools & charities. I'd love to play guitar for a
living and ditch my day job! Well, I can dream can't I.........lol.
I've
inserted a few bits on Mark Knopfler, My Guitars & My Band
below.
And not to
forget Mark's Keyboardist and studio whizz, Mr Guy Fletcher, a
true gentleman who has a wonderful website!!
